Whilst hardy members are still sailing when winter weather allows, the shorebased programme gives members the chance to socialise onshore. The clubhouse overlooking the river Deben provides a warm welcome, especially at weekends, when the lunchtime bar is open. Members enjoy the popular Wednesday suppers and also the nautically themed Sunday talks. The November talk was by Cate and was the fascinating tale of HMS Vale, the former Swedish Navy fast attack craft, and its transformation to a cafe. The December talk is about wind farms (and how to sail through them).

The November Thursday walk was around Walberswick led by Andy (and Tilly). Future walks are planned around other picturesque areas, always ending at dog friendly pubs for a welcome lunch. Other November social events include the lively Beetle Drive, with hot dogs and chips.

Members are looking forward to the club AGM when the new Commodore and other appointees take over from retiring members. John is our new Commodore, and grateful thanks go to Mark for his sterling leadership over the past two years.

December events include the Commodore’s Christmas Party, and Boxing Day mulled wine and mince pies get together.

Woodbridge Cruising Club will be running the RYA Day Skipper shore-based and RYA VHF radio courses in March 2025. The latter course is for the SRC certificate, a legal requirement to operate a ships radio.  Full details, including our very competitive prices for non-members, can be found on the club website. The club is a RYA accredited training centre.
